One rare genetic disease, hereditary angioedema (HAE), is characterized by episodic and unpredictable swelling. Currently, about 6,000 individuals are living with HAE in the United States, with around 50% of these individuals experiencing symptoms before the age of 10. Patients with hereditary angioedema face many challenges, including frequent prophylaxis injections, the need for immediate response to angioedema attacks, the unpredictability of symptom-free intervals, direct and indirect costs of care, and access to specialized providers. Faculty for this session will focus on access to care, discussing hereditary angioedema treatment advances and considerations for adding the patient value to the formulary process.

  1. Review the current guidelines, treatment options, and emerging pipeline for hereditary angioedema.
  2. Describe the value of treatment for patients with hereditary angioedema.
  3. Identify strategies, trends, and patient value factors that impact therapy decisions for patients with hereditary angioedema within the managed care process.
